The Valley of the Planets, also known as Wadi al-Hayat or the Valley of Life, is a remarkable site located in southwestern Libya, in the Fezzan region. This area is part of the larger Tadrart Acacus mountain range, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985 due to its rich prehistoric rock art.
The Valley of the Planets is known for its unique geological formations. The landscape is characterized by towering sandstone rock formations that have been eroded over millions of years by wind and water, creating surreal, otherworldly shapes. These formations, reminiscent of alien landscapes, give the valley its evocative name.
Unfortunately, the site has faced challenges in recent years. Political instability in Libya has made access difficult for researchers and tourists alike. Additionally, there have been reports of vandalism to some of the rock art sites.
